I was working on a post that was more uplifting of late, however after I read the New York Slime’s (AKA the NY Times) International Herald Tribune’s OP-ED piece, “HOW TO ELECTRIFY THE WORLD,” http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/07/21/opinion/edweiss.php I had to respond. In other words, tolerance and uplifting posts can take a vacation, at least for today!
So I decided to respond to the following:
1.”Many called for a smarter approach to terrorism, like Dr. Zulkieflimansyah, an Indonesian parliamentarian (who, like many Indonesians, uses one name and is more commonly known as Zul). He said the next president should build a “bridge of reason and understanding with the Islamic world.”
Build a bridge of reason and understanding? Oh really? I find it rather ironic that a Muslim is telling me to be more understanding of them. It was only last week that a group of Christians, Jews, and Muslims were meeting in Spain. Why Spain? Because it was untenable for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to have Christians and Jews in the Kingdom. So much for understanding!
2. “One person suggested a presidential visit to a mosque outside the U.S. “He should use speeches and visits to emphasize the values that Muslims and Americans have in common,” said Bijan Khajehpour, a Tehran-based analyst, “especially compassion, a core value in Islam.”
Visit a Mosque? How about all of the churches in Constantinople? http://www.e-grammes.gr/2000/06/church_en.htm These desecrations would never have been tolerated by muslims! Muslims call for tolerance rings hollow.
3.”The next president should take more account of the sentiments of other people, not just Americans,” said Masaki Orita, a former Japanese diplomat, echoing the sentiments of many. “Restore global trust and confidence by working with and listening to others,” said Gurdist Chansrichawla, a Thai venture capitalist, “and everything else will follow.”
Okay, Mr. tolerant Xenophobe Japanese diplomat, the last time I looked the President of the U.S. worked for me, not for you! Call it selfish, but I do not go into your house and tell you how to live so don’t tell me!
4. “Human rights. No U.S. president is likely to “cease support for all dictators,” as urged by Syed Abida Hussain of Pakistan’s Peoples Party. But closing the military prison at Guantánamo Bay and foreswearing torture would generate enormous international goodwill. America would again be seen as the “shield of freedoms, not their masked trampler,” said Carlos Fuentes, the Mexican novelist.”
Close Guantanamo Bay? I say expand it! If all I ever had to worry about being held during a war was wearing orange jump suits, 3 square meals a day, and a warm place to sleep, I would be set! The best part is having a Pakistani tell me what freedom is or should be!
5. The environment and energy. With Americans consuming more oil, and spewing more greenhouse gases, than any other nation, U.S. leadership on energy and climate change is seen as indispensable. A European-style cap-and trade system to reduce carbon emissions – which both Obama and McCain favor – would be a start, as would embracing the conventions of the Kyoto protocol. Shyam Saran, India’s special envoy for climate change, suggests going further with “an American-led global effort on renewable energy along the lines of the 1950s Atoms for Peace program” to share new technologies with other countries.
The U.S. has 10% of the world’s known oil, probably more like 40%, but the DUMBOCRATS won’t let us drill for it! Spewing? What a sweet choice of words! Last time I looked CO2 was required by plants to live. Besides all of the global warming doom and gloom, do you really think that the US is flopping around like a fish out of water and not doing anything? General Motors and Ford Motor Company are already working on Plug-in Hybrid cars that can travel 80 KM on electricity. And this is how I view the situation…… http://www.osampump.com/
6. “Poverty and Hunger. From Latin America to Africa to Asia, America’s foreign aid budget – currently less than one percent of the federal budget – is seen as a potential life-saver for the billion people living on less than a dollar a day and who now suffer from soaring food prices. “By doing something concrete and measurable on this issue,” said a media executive in the Gulf, “the U.S. could create enormous goodwill.”
Are these the same third world countries that want to sell us their agricultural products? They can’t even feed themselves! Besides when does one set of people get to decided how much another person donates? Don’t forget who gets to disaster areas first!
7. Welcome the world, not fear it. Strict visa and customs regulations and fingerprinting foreigners entering the U.S. may be a post-9/11 reality. But driving away foreign tourists, students and academics weakens the world’s economic and emotional links with America. The next president should launch a major review to ensure that these visitors are treated like welcomed guests, not – as I was told repeatedly – “like criminals.”!
This is on of the most ridiculous! The US has over 20 million illegal aliens. You know the ones my taxes pay for, schools, health care, welfare etc…If foreigners want to visit, cool, just follow our laws and leave when you are suppose to! Our Country, our laws, if you don’t like it don’t come!
